Cable In, Landscape Untouched

Trenchless wire burial is a way to run low-voltage wire underground without open trenching or digging — no long cuts across the lawn, no severed roots, no torn-up beds. Light TN buries lighting and audio cable across Middle Tennessee with the L2 Line Layer, a precision trenchless machine, and we are the only outdoor lighting company in the Nashville market that operates one.

Trenchless burial is defined by what it does not do. The L2 Line Layer slices a narrow path and pulls cable to depth in a single pass, so the surface closes back on itself instead of being opened, mounded, and reseeded. On a mature property — a lawn that took years to fill in, beds under decades-old trees, the root zone of a specimen oak — that difference is the whole point. A trench cuts roots and leaves a scar for a season; the L2 threads between them and leaves almost nothing to see.

Light TN uses the L2 Line Layer on its own installations and for cable that must cross finished landscape on any project, all to licensed contractor CE-D: 76580 standards. Light TN is a family-owned outdoor lighting design studio based in Burns, Tennessee, and the only company in the Nashville market with this equipment.

Trenchless wire burial is the right service for:

  • Mature lawns that took years to establish
  • Beds and root zones under specimen trees
  • Finished hardscape — patios, walks, and driveways to cross
  • Properties adding lighting or audio to an already-landscaped yard
  • Estate lots with long cable runs across graded ground

What's Included

The burial is planned to protect what is already in the ground and run cable cleanly to where it needs to go. It includes:

Utility and Irrigation Locating

Before the machine moves, underground utilities are marked and existing irrigation and cable runs are documented, so the trenchless path threads around what is already buried.

Route Planning Around Roots

Cable routes planned to work between root zones rather than through them, protecting the trees and beds the trenchless method exists to preserve.

The L2 Line Layer

The only precision trenchless machine of its kind in the Nashville market, slicing a narrow path and pulling cable to depth in one pass, so the surface stays essentially intact.

Burial to Depth

Low-voltage wire burial and underground wire installation: direct-burial-rated cable pulled to proper depth for low-voltage lighting and audio, deep enough to stay clear of routine yard work and protected at every transition.

Hardscape and Surface Crossings

Driveways, walks, and patio edges crossed by boring beneath rather than cutting through, so finished surfaces stay finished.

Minimal-Disturbance Finish

The narrow entry and exit points closed and dressed, so a day after the work there is little sign cable was run at all.

Lighting and Audio Cable

Low-voltage lighting cable and outdoor audio cable both buried the same way, so a property that needs power and sound across the yard gets both without two sets of trenches.

Coordinated With the Install

On a Light TN project, the trenchless run is coordinated with the lighting and audio design, so the landscape is opened once — or not at all.

Trenchless Wire Burial Challenges We Solve

A Trench Through a Mature Lawn - Trenchless Wire Burial

A Trench Through a Mature Lawn

Open trenching leaves a long scar across turf that took years to establish, mounded and reseeded and visible for a season. The L2 threads cable through without opening the lawn, so there is nothing to recover from.

Cut Roots Under Specimen Trees - Trenchless Wire Burial

Cut Roots Under Specimen Trees

A trench through a tree’s root zone can damage a specimen that cannot be replaced. We route around roots and pull cable between them, so the tree is never put at risk for the sake of a wire.

Tearing Up Finished Hardscape - Trenchless Wire Burial

Tearing Up Finished Hardscape

Running cable across a driveway or patio usually means cutting and patching. We bore beneath the surface instead, so the hardscape stays whole.

Adding Lighting to a Finished Yard - Trenchless Wire Burial

Adding Lighting to a Finished Yard

A landscape that is already designed and grown in seems impossible to wire without wrecking it. Trenchless burial is exactly the answer — new lighting and audio in an established yard, with the yard left intact.

Long Runs Across a Big Lot - Trenchless Wire Burial

Long Runs Across a Big Lot

Carrying cable across an estate lot by trench is slow, disruptive, and scarring. The L2 covers distance in clean passes, so a long run does not become a long wound.

How Trenchless Wire Burial Works

The Design-First Process

A trenchless run is planned before the machine moves, so the cable goes where it needs to and the landscape is protected.

Step 1: Site Walk and Locating

Timeline: Day One

We walk the property, mark underground utilities, and document existing irrigation and cable runs, so the trenchless path is planned around what is already buried.

Step 2: Route Planning

Timeline: Before the Run

Cable routes mapped to thread between root zones and around beds, with hardscape crossings identified for boring rather than cutting.

Step 3: Trenchless Burial

Timeline: Typically 1 Day

The L2 Line Layer pulls cable to depth in clean passes, threading between roots and under finished surfaces, to licensed contractor CE-D: 76580 standards.

Step 4: Connections and Testing

Timeline: Same Day

Cable terminated and every connection sealed with waterproof, direct-burial connectors, then tested for continuity before the entry points are closed.

Step 5: Surface Finish

Timeline: Same Day

The narrow entry and exit points dressed and closed, so the landscape reads as it did before the work.

Step 6: Documentation

Timeline: On Completion

The cable route documented, so the next shovel in the yard knows where the wire runs.

What Sets Us Apart

Trenchless work rests on one piece of equipment almost no one else in the market has, and on the judgment to plan a run that protects what is already in the ground.

Trenchless Wire Burial - what sets Light TN apart

The Only L2 Line Layer in the Market

Light TN is the only outdoor lighting company in the Nashville market operating the L2 Line Layer. It is a specialty machine, and it is the reason we can wire a mature, expensive landscape without trenching it.

Planned to Protect the Roots

The machine matters, but so does the route. We plan cable paths to thread between root zones and around established beds, so the trees and gardens the trenchless method exists to preserve are never put at risk.

Part of a Designed System

On a Light TN project, the trenchless run is coordinated with the lighting and audio design, so the landscape is opened once or not at all. The cable burial is one more piece of a system designed to leave the property looking untouched.

Investment and Pricing

How much does trenchless wire burial cost? On a Light TN lighting or audio project, trenchless burial is part of the installation and quoted with the system. As standalone work, it is scoped by the length of cable, the number of root zones and hardscape crossings, and the conditions of the property. Either way, you get a number before any work begins.

Key Cost Factors

Cable distance is the main driver, along with the number of hardscape crossings that must be bored, how many root zones and beds the route has to work around, the depth required, and site access for the machine. We scope to the property, so the number fits the run.

Project Investment Ranges

On a Light TN install, trenchless burial is included in the system quote rather than priced separately.
Standalone trenchless work is scoped by cable distance, hardscape crossings, and site conditions rather than fixed tiers.
You receive an itemized number before any work begins, and the on-site assessment is complimentary.

What's Included

Utility and irrigation locating, route planning around roots, trenchless cable burial with the L2 Line Layer, burial to proper depth, hardscape and surface crossings, sealed direct-burial connections, continuity testing, surface finish, and route documentation.

Payment Terms

A 15% deposit is due on projects over $10,000, with the balance at completion and your sign-off. We accept cash, checks, major credit cards, Zelle, and Venmo.
